Lazy Summer Days

July 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Acrylic on Cold Press Board. 4 1/8" X 6 1/8".

Along our driveway here in Chicago at our place we’ve planted a variety of native prairie plants in a very sunny exposure that is finally starting to fill and look like a prairie. With much delight I was surprised at how much of a wild life magnetic this garden has become. All kinds of insects, butterflies and birds. Goldfinches really seem to take full advantage of the Pale Coneflower (Echinacea) that I have painted here. During early summer I have seen them pull the petals off the flower head. As summer presses on and seeds ripen the Gold Finches devour them. Constant bright yellow and black traffic back and forth.
